Highlights:

• Third-quarter 2009 revenues for CIGNA fell to $4.5 billion from $4.8 billion in the third-quarter of the previous year.
• Shareholders' net income was $1.19 per share in the quarter, compared to $0.62 per share for the same period last year.
• Overall net income totaled $329 million for Q3 2009, compared with $171 million for the same period last year.
• Despite the revenue slide, CIGNA attributed it's overall profits to the discontinuance of a reinsurance business that had the company bleeding in previous quarters. CIGNA also is in the midst of laying off 1,100 employees company-wide.
