The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued new rules expected to cut Medicaid spending on drugs by about $17.7 billion over the next five years, according to Bloomberg. The savings will be achieved primarily from shifting more costs to pharmaceutical manufacturers and pharmacies. The new rule "puts in place simple measures that will cut costs, increase transparency and benefit consumers," CMS acting administrator Marilyn Tavenner said in a press release Friday. Statement
